When it comes to Leading a Team, or simply a group of Friends, the bond that exists between people is essential.

  • Everybody knows that.

Our personal bonds define the Team or Group we’re in.

And these social groups, define who we are, how we act, our decisions…

That is why, modelling these groups by forging the relationships among their members is crucial.

Take a look at how we took care of our group of friends, especially when we were young:

  • We didn’t want just anyone to join.
  • We took care of it, as if it was the most important thing in the world.

And… Normally, there was one person who decided whether a stranger would be welcome or not.

  • The “Leader”.

Therefore, one of the easiest ways to improve your Leadership position is to be in charge of improving Relationships within a group.

Why? Because:

  • It is something that “only” needs dedication (rather than a special or inherited Skill).
  • Everybody appreciates it.
  • The more you practice it, the better you get.
  • It is very satisfying from a personal point of view.

And, over time, you’ll be making important decisions, and people will turn their heads to you, to decide what to do.

If you want to boost your Leadership position and don’t know How to start, we suggest you this:

Examples of improving Leadership through Relationships

Take an interest in the personal lives of your group members.

  • Ask them about their family.
  • Help them in their problems.
  • Remember their birthday, family names, etc.

Host events or gatherings that group members like, not just you.

  • Organize a Barbecue with beers and a place for children.
  • Pay the group a round of beers sometimes.
  • Go to a restaurant with them and their families, separately.

Help ease tensions between group members.

  • Talk honestly and with good intentions.
  • Don’t take sides.
  • Try to minimize what confronts them.

Don’t be too Intense.

  • Some people appreciate more than others your concerns and attention.
  • You should tailor your treatment to the people treated.
  • Remember that what is kindness for some is “a pain in the ass” for others.
